Prior to this plastic-free adventure, Dan would go through a 1/2 gallon of orange juice every week. It was part of his morning routine to drink a glass with breakfast. We usually bought it in a paperboard (plastic-coated) container. When we decided to go plastic-free, we said farewell to the orange juice. I bought apple juice in a glass jar, but Dan hardly touched it. It just wasn’t the same.
On a trip to Wheat Ridge Poultry & Meats, I saw that along with Morning Fresh Dairy glass-bottled milk, there was glass-bottled orange juice for sale! I was thrilled at my find and Dan was happy to have his orange juice again. The bottle, just like the milk, does have a plastic cap. Morning Fresh Dairy has a program called Caps 4 Cash, where schools can earn cash by collecting the plastic caps from the Morning Fresh Dairy glass bottles. The school gets 5 cents for each cap redeemed.
Wheat Ridge Poultry & Meats is located at 5650 W 29th Ave, Wheat Ridge, Colorado 80214. If you buy glass-bottled milk or juice, plan on paying a $1.50 deposit (to be refunded when you return your empty bottle). Wheat Ridge does use plastic-lined paper to wrap their meats, so plan ahead and bring your own container for your meat purchases.
